Apu Nahasapeemapetilon is a semi-legal immigrant from India who runs the Kwik-E-Mart. He is a strict vegetarian who refuses to eat meat, milk, or eggs. He is often turned on by women who smell like curry, the luxurient, silky feel of polyester. Apu takes great pride in the fact that the quicky mart is open all day and all night, and, as a result, has been robbed and shot numerous times. He refuses to close the store before 11:00 like many others do because it is prime time for stoned teenagers searching for shiny objects to look at. Once, after working for 96 hours straight, he thought he was a hummingbird of some kind. He was forced to lie to his wife saying that the American man works 18 hour days 7 days a week. Apu's brother, Sanja, helps run the Kwik-E-Mart. |
