VICTORY

I have made up my mind to be happy,
I’ve been gloomy and glum long enough;
I am going to brace up like a soldier
And smile though the road may be rough.
I am going to throw back my shoulders;
I am going to lift up my head;
I am going to march on like a fighter,
Though I am weary enough to be dead.
I have made up my mind to be pleasant,
The day’s none too bright at the best,
And my smile,
though it may need some urging,
Will kindle a light in some breath.
It is settled, I’ve decided forever,
And my lips shall sing it, my song!
I will sing, and in spite of my feelings,
How else can I journey along?
Yes, I believe it is for me, the victory!
I believe it’s the thing God would give,
So here’s like grim death to the battle,
I will fight, and I’ll conquer and live!
