Situated in the desert of the Great Rift Valley Lake Baringo is a haven of peace and beauty
in harsh, rugged but majestic surroundings. It's shores are fringed with papyrus and water lilies and the surface of the
lake some just uprisings of rock from the water , others covered with lush vegetation and inhabited by uncivilzed tribes.
The waters of this lake have many species of birds, crocodiles and hippos. The delightful Njemps are close kin to the Masai Tribes.
They invited us to join there singing and dancing....

Nakuru is home to Lake Nakuru, one of the Rift Valley soda lakes, it forms part of the Lake Nakuru National Park. The park is famous for the vast numbers of flamingoes that can be seen lake. This park has many wild animals you can see seen while on safari. Aside from the animals there are many other sites to see from Nakuru. Menengai Crater, a dormant volcano. Small fumaroles and steam vents can regularly be seen within the forested caldera from above. This is second largest surviving volcanic crater in the world, it plunges 483 miles down from the rim and you can reach the summit by foot or car round 16 miles from the main road to Nyahururu. The wood-covered crater ground is a nature reserve.
...Flamingo Birds Everywhere...
Lake Nakuru, near Nakuru Town. It is best known for its thousands, sometimes millions of flamingos nesting along the shores. The surface of the shallow lake is often hardly recognizable due to the continually shifting mass of pink. The number of flamingoes on the lake varies with water and food conditions and the best vantage point is from Baboon Cliff. Also of interest is an area of 188 km around the lake fenced off as a sanctuary to protect Rothschild giraffes and black rhinos.
Masai Hut...
The park has recently been enlarged partly to provide the sanctuary for the black rhino. This undertaking has necessitated a fence - to keep out poachers rather than to restrict the movement of wildlife. The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country, so the chances of spotting these survivors are good. There are also a number of Rothschild's giraffe, again translocated for safety from western Kenya beginning in 1977. Waterbuck are very common and both the Kenyan species are found here. Among the predators are lion and leopard, the latter being seen much more frequently in recent times. The park also has large sized pythons that inhabit the dense woodlands, and can often be seen crossing the roads or dangling from trees.
