|||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
A full moon night. A ball of light is seen flying through the air, heading towards Kaede's village. When it arrives, it lands and takes the shape of an old woman, carrying a scythe on her shoulder. Kaede and the villagers try to attack her, knowing that she's a demon, but the hag just ignores them and jumps to a small graveyard, where she attacks Kaede and the others, destroys Kikyou's grave, and digs up a jar, which we learn are actually Kikyou's ashes! Kaede tells the woman to put them back, but the woman declares that Kikyou's remains now belong to the witch, Urasue. With that, she disappears into the night, leaving behind a wounded Kaede. Elsewhere, InuYasha is dreaming of running through the forest, only to hear someone yell is name, and he turns to see who's calling him, only to be pinned to a tree again, wondering who shot him. At first, he thinks it's Kagome, but immediately decides it isn't. He realizes that the woman is Kikyou, and she's glaring at him, hating him and wanting him dead. InuYasha wakes up, upset at the dream, and saying that he could have done without those bad memories. He looks down at Kagome, who's asleep under his tree, with Shippou resting against her. He jumps down from his tree and lands sits next to her, watching her sleep and thinking about how much Kagome looks like Kikyou. But then Kagome wakes up, and out of reflex slaps InuYasha as she sits up. She asks InuYasha what's wrong as she yawns, and Inu moves his hand away from his face, and points to the red handprint on his cheek. Kagome asks if she did that, and apologizes to him for it. Then he yells that he was wrong, and that Kagome doesnt "look anything like her!" "Look like who?" "You're not even REMOTELY similar!" "Remotely similar to WHO?!" Immediately, InuYasha freezes up, and looks away, telling her not to worry about it. Then he sees something flying across the moon, and while Kagome's wondering what it is, he picks up the scent of blood, thinking that he recognizes that scent. The next day, InuYasha's in a hurry to get back to the village, although Kagome doesn't know why. When they arrive, they meet the wounded Kaede, and InuYasha acts annoyed that she's still alive. Kaede leads them up to where Kikyou's grave was, while Inu's telling her to take it easy. Kagome realizes that InuYasha wanted to come back because he knew Kaede was in trouble. At the gravesite, Kaede explains what happened, complete with mini-flashback. While Kaede's talking, InuYasha turns around and walks off, explaining that while they may have forgotten Kikyou's betrayal to him, he hasn't, and can remember the pain from being shot in the chest by her arrow. Kaede apologizes, and Kagome has a flashback about Kikyou and InuYasha's last meeting. On a hill, InuYasha remembers that Urasue also smelled like soil from Kikyou's grave, and wonders what the witch is planning. He's interrupted by Kagome walking up to him, asking him to go with her to get Kikyou's ashes. He looks away from her, and Kagome finally gets ticked off. She grabs him by the hair and pulls his face towards her, asking why he hasn't been able to look her in the eye since the other day. When he tells her she's imagining things, she yells out that it's because she looks like Kikyou. But then he does turn and looks her in the eye, grabbing her hand and telling her that, "It's not like that." His face moves closer to hers, and she's looking him in the eyes, watching him until she freaks out and shoves him down the hill. She sits there, blushing and shaking, thinking that it looked like he was going to kiss her. He jumps back up next to her, and they argue for a second until Kaede arrives, leading a horse and saying that she is going to retrieve Kikyou's ashes alone. InuYasha asks if she wants to get killed, then goes and grabs the horses reins, saying that they'll put Kikyou's remains to rest again. Kagome decides that she and Shippou will go along, and follows behind InuYasha, thinking that he wasn't looking at HER when he almost kissed her. As they travel, Kagome reflects on how InuYasha was looking through her, to Kikyou. She continues thinking on it, and remembering what she already knew, including how he hadn't looked at her in hatred when he was seeing Kikyou in her, and realizes that InuYasha may have possibly been in love with Kikyou. The next day, as Kaede and InuYasha argue over graves and their importance to humans, as well as Kikyou's life, Kagome watches InuYasha, and notices that he's thinking of Kikyou again. She decides that since InuYasha loved Kikyou, and Kikyou shot InuYasha, that meant that the priestess didn't love the hanyou in return. But as Kagome's sitting there, looking at her friend sadly, InuYasha notices, and jumps onto her bike, asking what she's thinking about, since she's giving him a pitying look. She immediately waves him off, telling him it's nothing, but he keeps asking, as she tries to pedal her bike faster and convince him to drop the subject. Nearby in the mountains, Urasue is checking on her demon kiln, and throws an herb on top of a clay, body-shaped structure. The clay immediately cools and cracks, revealing a person inside. Urasue calls to the person inside, calling her Kikyou, and when the person sits up, we learn that she has truly resurrected Kikyou! Urasue intends to use Kikyou in order to gather all the Shikon no Tama shards, but then notices a problem. Kikyou has no soul! Angrily, Urasue decides that if her magic was unable to bring back Kikyou's soul, then it has already been reincarnated into another body. The others are still en route to Urasue's hideout, and notice many clay statues spread throughout the forest. They arrive at a bridge, where Kagome has problems crossing due to a fear of falling. InuYasha tells her to stay behind, but she refuses. Shippou runs ahead, but stops at the sight of more clay statues standing on the bridge. The clay breaks away to reveal soldiers, who move steadily forward towards the group. InuYasha attacks, learning that the soldiers are hollow mud dolls. As he continues to fight off the soldiers, though, Urasue hears them battling outside, and tries to retrieve the herb from Kikyou so she can go see who's attacking her. But Kikyou refuses to release the plant, and sits up, turning her head to look outside. At Kagome. Urasue realizes that the girl who looks like Kikyou is Kikyou's reincarnation, and goes after Kagome herself, cutting the bridge in half with her scythe and snatching up Kagome before she can fall with everyone else. She holds the scythe to Kagome's throat, and tells of her plan to revive Kikyou with Kagome's soul. |
