Kagome's trying to hurry and leave school, but her friends don't seem to want to let her. When she finally makes it to the door, she bumps into Hojo, who asks her to go to the movie with him on Saturday. With some pressure from her friends, she agrees, only to remember that she'll probably still be in the past with InuYasha on Saturday. Hoping to still go to the date, Kagome asks InuYasha if they can try to be back by Saturday. Inu agrees, but then asks her when Saturday is. In the feudal era, Kagome's busy enjoying the boat ride she and the others are on (including the sea-sick Shippou), when they come across a bunch of webs stretching across the river. Before they can really think about it, though, a yell causes them to look up at a nearby cliff right as a girl is knocked from the ledge. InuYasha jumps and catches the girl, who thanks him until she sees his ears. Then, with a yell of "Demon! Unhand me!", she slaps him, knocking him off balance, and making them both fall into the river. While Inu's trying to dry himself off, the girl explains to Kagome that the thing that attacked her was a demon called a spider-head. Kagome asks InuYasha if they'll help out with the demon attacks, but when she says there are no shards, Inu insists on leaving. Kagoem tries to convince him to help, but the girl stands up and refuses their help. After snapping at Shippou, who tells her to be more grateful, she tries to climb up a vine to get back to the cliff, only to end up falling back down when the vine breaks. InuYasha is convinced to at least carry the girl back to where she lives, where a monk comes out and asks "Nazuna" if she's all right. She explains about the attack and apologizes for leading demons back to the temple. The monk invites the group to stay the night, and both Nazuna and InuYasha argue about it, until Kagome begs InuYasha to let them stay, especially after hearing about the number of spider-heads in the area. He also explains that Nazuna hates demons so much because her village was destroyed by them. After what Shippou declares a "delicious meal", Kagome notices that InuYasha seems to be upset about something. He insists it's nothing, but Kagome declares that he's afraid of spiders. Of course, Shippou turns into a spider in hopes of scaring the half-demon, only to end up slammed to the ground as Inu states that he is NOT afraid of spiders. He goes to sleep outside, only to find out that they're surrounded by spider-heads. He starts to fight them off, but the others notice that the Tetsusaiga refused to transform. Finally, Kagome and Shippou end up dragging a spider-web covered InuYasha from the fight, and to the woods nearby. Meanwhile, Nazuna runs looking for her master, only to find the old monk laying on the ground, covered in webs and apologzing for the weakness of his wards. InuYasha yells for her to leave him alone, but Kagome grabs onto some of the web and pulls it away to reveal... a black-haired InuYasha. With dark eyes, human ears, teeth, and nails. Shippou even jumps onto InuYasha's head to try and find his dog-ears. Myouga explains that all half-demons have a time when they become fully human. And that InuYasha's time apparently came on the night of the New Moon. When he asks why Inu didn't tell him that he would be weaker tonight, he says that the flea would've run. Kagome asks why he didn't tell her, and he yells that he doesn't trust anyone. Kagome says she understands, but that she IS his friend. he explains that that's how he's lived till now. She begins to cry, shocking him, then they proceed to start yelling at each other, while Shippou summons his courage to protect Kagome. Only to end up running to InuYasha when the bushes rustle. Nazuna steps out, asking for Kagome to send InuYasha in to fight the spider-heads, and save the temple. Then she notices that Inu seems to look different, and Inu states that "it ain't easy bein' HUMAN." But then Kagome remembers something. She left her bag at the temple. And inside the bag, is her jewel shards. After a yelp from InuYasha, she is given the Tetsusaiga, since it'll keep her safe. Then, he grabs Shippou and heads back to the temple. When they arrive, the monk is taking the jewel shards from Kagome's bag, only to be stopped by a human InuYasha and Shippou, who hurriedly tries to gather the jewel shards. The monk reveals himself to be a spider-head, and attaks Shippou in order to devour the shards the fox-demon had been unable to pick up. The spider head explains that it was all a trap to lure InuYasha and his jewel shards to the temple, then expands to a large, web-shaped form, and bites Inu, poisoning him. Kagome and Nazuna arrive to see Shippou try to convince the spider head that he didn't have the shards, only to end up being attacked themselves. Kagome blocks it with the Tetsusaiga, which still protects her. Then she begins to climb up the monk's weird body, in order to reach InuYasha, who's telling her to run away. She refuses, and lunges at the webbing holding InuYasha, Tetsusaiga (still in it's sheath) raised to break the strands holding him. But the hanyou notices something. Kagome's crying. She breaks through the webbing, and they both fall to the ground, where Shippou and Nazuna lead them to a room at the end of the hall, and shut the door behind them. Myouga instructs Kagome to thrust the Tetsusaiga into the door, which puts up a barrier to keep the spider-heads out for a while. But then Kagome feels that InuYasha's freezing, and he won't wake up. Myouga jumps up to InuYasha's neck, and starts to suck out the poison, getting enough out of the half-demon's system to allow him to last until sunrise, at least, so long as he has the will to do so. While the others rest, Kagome watches over InuYasha, only to end up accidentally waking him up when she tries to wipe the sweat from his forehead. InuYasha looks away from her and asks why she was crying in the other room. When he finds out that she was crying because she was worried he was going to die, he was surprised. "You shed tears for me. Cried for me." InuYasha thens asks to lie on Kagome's lap, which she agrees to let him do. After a little while, she asks if he's feeling better. He says he is, then tells her that she "smells kind of nice." When Kagome points out that he once said he hated her scent, he explains that he had been lying then. While Kagome's all flustered over the compliment, he ends up falling asleep! But the rest of the group is awakened when the spider-head monk ends up attacking again, having grown large enough to crush the temple they were in. The monk then reaches in and lifts up Shippou, swinging him until the jewel shards come flying out, then dropping the fox in order to swallow the jewel shards. Kagome catches Shippou, and Nazuna challenges the spider-head, holding InuYasha's sword. When the demon tells her that he was the one who slaughtered her family and villagers, she attacks him, causing no damage at all. He grabs her by the throat and lifts her up, causing her grip on Tetsusaiga to weaken, and the sword to fall. Only to be caught by an alive and healed InuYasha, who says that she's "pretty determined, for a human, that is." The spider head quickly grabs up InuYasha, in order to devour him, but Shippou points out that the sun is rising. And InuYasha's eyes begin to glow red as his body pulses, his hair turning back to silver as he becomes a half-demon again. The spider head decides to hurry and eat Inu before he can regain his full power, only to have some of his arms sliced off by InuYasha's claws. Then, as everyone watches, the Tetsusaiga turns back into a fang, and is used to rip the spider-head into shreds. The jewel shards, which had solidified inside the demon's body, fall to the ground in a solid chunk, about 1/3 of the size of the original jewel. InuYasha complains that he had thought they'd gotten more, but Kagome insists it's "enough to impress this girl." Finally, they end up back in their boat on the river, saying goodbye to Nazuna, who insists that she'll try to remember that not all demons are bad. "All demons are bad, Nazuna." Kagome thinks about what InuYasha had told her as a human, about her smelling nice. She wonders if it was just the poison talking, or if he had really meant it. When he turns around and yells at her for staring at him, she decides not to bother asking. Of course, InuYasha gets his just desserts when Shippou, still seasick, responds to Inu's taunts by throwing up on him. |
