Speaker Cabinet Plans |
These plans are great if you like killer imaging, these have nice deep bass down to about 35Hz. There are a few alterations I would make to these plans, one thing I would do is move the narrow end of the pipe up on the front and enlarge the vent. This vent is a little small, and Voight pipes like a good sized vent. If you really want more bass, then |
move the vent to the back of the cabinet and put your speakers up against a wall or corner. I prefer the vent in the front so I don't have to worry about how far my speakers are from the wall. In the design I made with two 12trxb's and one SP12B in each cabinet I actually get better bass with the speaker moved out from the wall a bit in my room. |
If you are really into a system that looks and sounds Vintage than these speakers are for you. They have nice bass, with almost any 12" Vintage loudspeaker of the 40's or 50's. If you do make these for the 12trxb I would suggest one of two things. One: make the front pannels removable so that you can install the drivers from the back of the front pannel. |
Two: use some of the older 12trxb drivers that don't have the large cast aluminum frames, they will mount from the front and this woujld make access easier and the cabinet better. The link to Kevin Greir's site will help you see how these plans can be constructed. |
These were the very first cabinets I made for the 12trxb, I got these off a a Karlson Coupler web site, I think the only one in existence. They are very attractive, and I decided to bullnose the hole for the driver and mount it from the back. This was very attractive, and I would highly recommend it. They are slightly modified from the plans I got off the site. |
In the end these cabinets had no bass much lower than 100Hz, and I abandoned the project to other things. I attempted to lengthen the pipe by adding some to the bottom of the cabinet, but this had problems. If I were to make these again I would make them with a longer pipe about five and half feet long. |
These plans are actually for the 15trxb which is very similar to the 12trxb. Even though they are larger I would say that the 12trxb would have no problem making them work. One thing that is redundant is the karlson coupler expansion slot, Voight Pipes really don't need this like transmission lines, as they control the bandwidth of their bass enhancement by their geometry. |
This might though add to that by making the bass very smooth, but I have not experienced peaky bass with any Voight Pipe that I have made. Usually if the port (vent) is the correct size they have a smooth bass response, if it is too large then it will begin to have a main peak. At that peak the bass enhancement will become greater. |
