The 12trxb's did not just impress me, they floored me, they did everything very well, as another friend of mine Larry Russell says, " they do nothing the very best of any speaker, but do everthing very very well, you can find other speakers with better imaging, better dynamics, more accurate tone, and so on, but only the 12trxb does everything on such a high level equally well." So here I am owning many 12trxb drivers, having made three cabinets for them, and am very close to creating a cabinet that I feel is worthy of this wonderful driver. They are a true coaxual speaker, and what EV calls a triaxual, I call them pseudo triaxual as the whizzer does not have its own voice coil. There are different variations as you can see above in the two models shown, and in the 70's EV made a 12trx which was eight ohms rather than 16 ohms. Also in the 70's they made some SL12's that had a dome tweeter without a whizzer. They come with an "L" pad for the tweeter, as the cabinet will ultimately determine the efficiency of the woofer, and then you blend in the tweeter with the "L" pad. On the driver their is a comon lug for the negative lead of both drivers and two more positive lugs one for the 12" woofer and one for the EV T-35 tweeter. My objective with this web site is to educate those that want to learn more about the 12trxb and other EV drivers, and have a place where all of us share our experiences and knowledge of these incredible speakers. This site may eventually turn into more than that, but this is where we will start. Many have asked me of T/S parameters, how to find a mate for a speaker they have, plans for cabinets and so on. It is hoped that this site will answer most if not all questions that everyone has. It has been extremely hard for me to get information on these drivers, so I imagine the trouble many of you have had as well. Please email your story and photo's to me, so that I can place them for all to see. If you have made cabinets drawings are very nice as well. |
