Export version single backglassBlack Hole's double playfield design appears unique even today, and new eyes falling on the game are immediately facinated by the vast lower playfield as it's floodlit in attract mode. Gottlieb scored a real winner with this but in fact they didn't devise it themselves.

The original game concept actually came to Gottlieb from an outside source (see the "Prototype/Game Origins" story from the next page) and John Buras then set out the upper playfield and the ball transfer between the 2 levels, whilst Adolph Seitz laid out the lower playfield. The playfield layout and Terry Doerzaph's amazing playfield artwork tie in perfectly to the theme.

Black Hole's greatest attraction though is perhaps both the difficulty and beauty of its unique gameplay. Make it to multi-ball and your head will be spinning with the challenge of playing 3 balls simultaneously on 2 levels and in 2 opposite directions.
