Directions to the Granite Mountain Trailhead
From Phoenix, drive North on Interstate 17 about 45 miles. Exit at Cordes Junction and continue into Prescott on Route 69. At Prescott watch for the intersection of Route 89 coming in from the North. Continue into Prescott, staying on the right to catch the turn onto East Sheldon Street. Stay on Sheldon to Montezuma, then turn North (right). Montezuma will soon curve to the left, becoming Whipple Street, then at the intersection with Miller Valley / Willow Creek Roads (at Yavapai Hospital) it becomes Iron Springs Road. Continue Northwest on Iron Springs for about 3 miles and turn right on a narrow, two-lane road just past the GRANITE BASIN REC AREA sign. Follow this road for about 4 miles to the Metate day use parking area ($2.00 parking permit per vehicle.) Once we meet in the parking area, we will continue by foot to trail 261 heading toward Granite Mountain. The gate is open 7 AM in Winter and 6 AM in Summer.
