My contribution in RAWE Programme
I was placed in odathurai village near Gobi area in Erode distict of TamilNadu(India) where I stayed for about three months. In first week of stay I throughly studied about rural situation, settlement pattern, demography, infrastructural facilities, their cropping pattern using Practicipatory Rural Appraisal Techniques(PRA).
After collecting required information I have drawn rough map of Odathurai village and analysed for improvements that can be done through this study.
Later I visited individual homes for collecting information using questioner method and analysed their problems, thier customs and beliefs.I learned about various organisational structures and their duties.
I with my collegues explained various activities carried by our university.I finally submitted report on study of village and suggestions for improvement.
Earn While You Learn Programme
Under this programme each student will be alloted about 5-6 cents of land for cultivation. In that land we individually rise crops; one wetland crop and one garden land crop.I have sown the seeds after calculating the seed rate for 5 cents.I applied manure at the critical cropping periods and after getting suggestions from our entmology Professors I applied pesticides to the crops.
I have rasied paddy as wetland crop and sunflower as gardenland crop.
Commerical Agriculture
The various commerical agriculture courses offered as specialisations are: Commercial Production of spawn and mushroom, seed production, production of biocontrol agents, nursery technology, broiler production.
I selected a Commercial on the Production of Spawn and Mushroom because of my special interest on mushroom.I selected this because mushrooms are globally demand food and has potential for starting a production unit.
I practised preparation of mother spawn production and preparation of various types of beds for mushrooms like oyster mushroom, milky mushroom, paddystraw mushroom and ganoderma mushroom.
