Unless you lived within a 4 block proximity of Stan`s, you`ve probably never heard a Side Effects practice. One of the greatest things about practicing at Stan`s was the fact that in ALL the bands I`ve ever played in, this was the only place where the neighbors didn`t call the police to bitch about the "noise".
On some Saturdays we`d go through the entire 4 sets (5-6 hours, counting the beer breaks). Stan lives in a nice upscale historic neighborhood and one of my favorite (comical) memories was when the neighborhood had a "walking tour" to show off the houses. We just happened to had planned an all day practice that day. The people that were walking by with their maps/programs had to wonder how in the hell someone let this rock band into this historic quiet neighborhood.
Anyhow I digress, below are a few MP3s taken from this dusty tape. It was recorded from a pressure zone mic slapped up to the wall and ran into a cheesy tape deck with some compression (so we could hear more than just Dave`s 500 watts of bass). The quality is what you would expect from a set-up of this magnitude.
Here`s to hoping that the Side Effects may one day return to the glory days reflected in these tunes...
