Let's Sum Up the Weather is an ongoing real-time data project that will take students through the school year, incorporating math, science, social studies, and language arts.   By participating in the project, students will be able to answer the most important weather questions:

· Will we be able to go outside and play?
· How hot or cold is it today?
· How does today’s temperature compare to that of yesterday, last season, and last year?
· Can we predict tomorrow’s weather?

By using web-cams and real-time data sources, students will observe and record the temperature and weather conditions daily, for a two-week period in each of the four seasons.  Each day, the temperature will be plotted on a line graph.  At the end of every two-week period, students will learn to calculate seasonal averages using mean, median, and mode.

Due to the structure of the project, we recommend dividing your year into the following four periods, to gather data from each of the seasons:

Period 1 – Summer: June 22 - September 21
Period 2 – Fall: September 22 – December 21
Period 3 – Winter: December 22 – March 21
Period 4 – Spring: March 22 – June 21

Adjust the schedule to your specific needs and climate, but please try to collect a sampling of each season.
