The Petition Against the Editing of Japanese Anime

That's right minna-sama! I'm putting up my petition. If you know what harm Cartoon Network or other television stations have brought to your favorite animes, and you want to stop this excessive censoring, and you would like the stations to subtitle instead of dub the animes, or maybe just stop messing them up entirely,  fill out the form which will be automatically sent to me. If I haven't added you within a week of your submission, e-mail me.

1.-Sumire-chan (webmistress and in charge of the petition)-
-Sumire@weisskreuz.zzn.com-
-Las Vegas, NV-
-reason for signing: I wish Cartoon Network would stop ruining Japanese anime!-
Comments: I really think that over-censoring anime just so it's appropriate for small children is wrong.  Japanese anime is not intended for or geared to younger children anyway, and I think that what Cartoon Network does, as good as their intentions are, is really wrong. I, as well as many other people, view anime as a unique art form, and changing this art is completely wrong! Anime is NOT cartoons, it's anime, and while some minor censoring is acceptible, taking out every single inappropriate scene/word is ruining the anime for everyone! Why not subtitle?

Comments: Just leave the anime alone! It's good as it is!

3.-Ayame Kudou-

-Las Vegas, NV-
-reason for signing: Anime shouldn't be screwed up like it is!-
Comments: Sumire was the one who introduced me to anime, and the one who got me obsessed over Weiss Kreuz, and now I'm helping her stop all the messed up editing in anime. She's right, it's not for kids. And we're not kids. And anime has been destrroyed for the rest of the population!

4.-W. Bowman-
-wbowman@amazon.com-
-Seattle, WA-
-reason for signing: I want Cartoon Network to show more authentic translated Japanese animation!-
Comments: Cartoon Network really does a disservice to their viewers by not showing truer translations of the Japanese animation they run. There would be more people watching it if it was better so even the sponsors could make more money. More viewers=more money

-reason for signing: Cartoon Network should not be exploiting and editing Japanese animation for their own profit.
Comments: Japanese animation is an art form. It should not be taken away from. Anime needs to be left in its original form. If I were the artist I would not appreciate an American network changing and cheapening my art. I am in no way implying that Cartoon Network should air sexuality, violence, cursing, or nudity. I am simply stating that if they have limits on elements such as these then do not air series that have them so that no original work will be edited or cut out. Thank you!

-reason for signing: Well I am sick to death of these stupid censoring..I mean they do retarded things to the show.
Comments: I just think they should dub it and leave the rest of the show alone. I know Sailor Moon was definitely vandalized and to me it's just wrong...leave the shows alone! Come on I am 16 years old and I love GW..it sucks that I have to watch it at midnight for the uncut version..plus I bet there would be more viewers if they left it alone.

7.-Carissa O'Seanachain-
-shinigami24@webtv.net-
-Sussex, NJ-
-reason for signing: There is a difference between cartoons and anime!
Comments: Dear Cartoon Network, I would like to address a complaint. On behalf of all CN viewers that agree with me, the anime you edit like Gundam Wing is a disgrace. Anime is meant to be in its original form, never edited. So please do not make fools of yourselves and either sub or dub the shows. I do care for the younger viewers, but why watch something if it is not at its greatest? That's like editing the Matrix. Please, if you show anime, let it be anime, not a cartoon.

8.-Adam-
-adambacchus@yahoo.com-
-Minneapolis, MN-
-reason for signing: Not all anime is for kids!
Comments: If large corporations plan on massively editing shows meant for a more mature audience, why not censor movies such as South Park, in which the essence of the entertainment is based upon the lewd jokes, and put them on the Fox Family Channel? Please, just stick to the anime shows that are oriented towards kids, such as Pokemon, etc. After all, that's what they're meant for, right? It would save you trouble to show childrens' anime TV shows rather than editing anime shows meant for an older audience, wouldn't it? Also, you wouldn't have to deal with all these angry petitioners, eh?

-Yaegashi@weisskreuz.zzn.com-
-Jacksonville, FL-
-reason for signing: All that horrific dubbing, and other such things that Cartoon Network is doing.
Comments: Stop dubbing the animes. Stop prooning them of their nationality! Really though, it seems like everything we bring over here (to America) we claim for our own or just change a little....like this. By dubbing, and censoring other things. There has to be a better way to turn everyone into Americans other than contaminating their entertainment. One more time, stop dubbing and censoring animes! Please.

10.-Cath Dickinson-
-seraph.child@heavensdoor.co.uk-
-reason for signing: Anime works the way it is, it is for adults, not kids!
Comments: You might as well edit the sex scenes out of "9 and a Half Weeks" so it is suitable for a young audience! I mean come on!

11.-Alan O'Kelly-
-setsuna16@fcmail.com-
-Morgan Hills, CA-
-reason for signing: the continuous setting of anime for children 10 and under, when it's for teens and adults as well.
Comments: Please, please take more consideration in your showings of anime, we all love Japanese animation and we are all hurt by how you make our favorite shows childish and plotless. Perhaps you could help in making anime for a wider audience in America by making it as serious as it is in Japan. A larger audience means more sponsors...which leads to more money. Thank you for your time.

Comments: I hate how you replace some of the swear words with others, it makes it sound worse. And it's not like people can't tell what they are anyway.

-El Paso, TX-
-reason for signing: I'm an anime purist Cartoon Network is evil
Comments: I don't think anime should be changed it's good in its original form. If they want kids to watch animation leave that to disney, anime is totally different from cartoons, kids shouldn't watch.  JUST SAY NO TO DISNEY AND CARTOON NETWORK!!! LEAVE OUR ANIME ALONE! Just give us our own station. Quit screwin with the shows.

16.-Nikki-
-acidraine_np@hotmail.com-
-Victoria, BC-
-reason for signing: censoring - keep anime authentic.
Comments: Censoring turns older viewers away. Anime is not directed to only the younger audience. If you're going to air it, sub it or dub it or don't show it at all. Why is society so concerned about kids being influenced? If parents don't want kids to watch uncensored, tell them to take care of that themselves. Censoring is tainting anime, losing its originality, making it closer to a cartoon. Anime is NOT a cartoon.

18.-Gillian-

-reason for signing: In hopes that companies/networks will cease to dub & censor anime.
Comments: Anime should be viewed by those who enjoy cultural differences, anime should be left in its original state in both language and content.

19.-Lynn Kudou-

-reason for signing: to stop horrible dubs and preserve anime purity
Comments: Dubs not only ruin character voices, but the character's personality. And more often than not, it ruins the storyline as well. To understand and *like* the anime, it can only be in subtitled form, *unless* a company takes time to do a good dub, and not something that's been edited for little tots watching. Blood, death, destruction, and nudity are all part of anime, and by taking that out, you're taking away anime.

20.-Ami Kudo-
-kudoyohji@weisskreuz.zzn.com-
-Santa Ana, CA-
-reason for signing: I am SICK and TIRED of my favorite and not so favorite animes being RUINED by Republican BEURAUCRATS
Comments: Why censor when we already have such raunchy and questionable product on cable TV? What about LEXX on Sci-Fi? South Park? The 10 Spot on MTV? Amongst countless others, is there a reason to censor Japanese animation? Shows bordering about gays and lesbians, sex and violence are all over the place. And ya censor cause there's a pair of bare breasts? I'll tell you something....what happened when you males were pre-teens? I bet you hid the JC Penney catalog under your bed, already opened up to the lingerie section!

21.-Codie Griffes-
-Nuku_nukuCatGrl@webtv.net-
-Grand Haven, MI-
-reason for signing: Why change a good thing?
Comments: Why not just do what they did with Gundam Wing and have the cut during the day for the younger audience, then the uncut at night, and then you could also have the subtitled/uncut for sale? I know that I can't bear most of the dubbed voices and love the original Japanese. Also I hate when a lot of the Japanese culture gets cut out. That's half the reason I even watch anime!
