Admiral Greer:Excuse me, Jack, tell me one thing in life that is absolutely for certain.

Jack Ryan: My daughter's love.

In The Hunt For Red October Jack Ryan (played by Alec Baldwin) helps a Russian nuclear sub commander defect to the US-with the sub. With a start like that, you know this man is going to go far in the CIA. Now Jack's back, with Harrison Ford stepping into the role. Jack foils an assassination attempt against a member of the British Royal Family. (In the book, the Prince and Princess of Wales-in the movie, a Lord and Lady Holmes.) The attempt was made by a splinter faction of the IRA, and when Ryan kills the baby brother of the terrorists, he and his family become targets of revenge.
Jack Ryan
Sean Bean plays Sean Miller with a hateful intensity, and after his people break him out of prison, he moves his operations to the United States and the Ryan's backyard. His first attempt fails, landing Ryan's wife and daughter in the hospital, which only serves to make him a tad angrier. And when Lord and Lady Holmes stop by for dinner during a thunderstorm, the games begin. Samuel L. Jackson plays Robby Jackson, a role that kicked butt in the book, and is pretty much a throwaway here, but played, as always, with that wonderful Jackson intensity. Add James Earl Jones as Admiral Greer and you have a blockbuster action flick.
