Gavin Alexander Grubb
Gavin was born on April 18, 1999 at 11:02 a.m. He weighed 6lbs. 3 ozs. and was 18 inches long. He was 5 weeks premature. We found out that day that he had terrible heart problems. On April 20 he was sent to a childrens hospital. When he was 5 days old he had open heart surgery. When he came out of surgery he had many complications. The doctors didn't expect him to live though all of those problems but he did. He would have ups and downs. He was tested for a chromosome problem which they found out he had. It has to do with his 22nd chromosome, part of one of them is missing. Its called DiGeorge syndrome. He was on the ventilator for a long time and that gave him bad lung problems. He kept getting holes in his lungs and at one point had 7 chest tubes. On top of all those problems he had no immune system to fight any infections. He fought a long fight but in the end on June 13 he coded. They were able to get him back but only with the help of alot of medications. early into the next morning he started to crash again, so knowing that we put him though enough we chose to put him on a lesser ventilator and hold him. After we held him for a while we took him off and he died in my arms at 3:30 a.m. on June 14, 1999. God took our precious angel to heaven.

Daddys Poem to our Angel
The day was April 18th of 1999
I looked into the eyes
of a baby new to me
We never preconceived,
or ever saw a sign
That just two short months later,
We would have to grieve.
We've often sat and pondered
That useless question why?
We've also often wondered,
Who says he really died.
For all we know,
This precious child
Who grew inside our hearts,
Lives on until the day we die,
For we shall never part.
To be united one day in Heaven
Can be our only hope.
To one day hold our child again,
Is how we've learned to cope.
