Another Good Showing!
Philadelphia 21 Pittsburgh 17

I was not able to watch the game last Friday, so I had to rely on information from the internet to write this commentary.

The score might not indicate it, but this was a game the Steelers dominated. Or more to the point, the first string players dominated.

When our starting players were on the field, we were in total control. In the first half, we outgained them 169-43. We outscored them 10-0, but this could have been better if not for 2 Norm Johnson missed field goals.

The Eagles had the ball in Steeler territory only once, and that was due to a Kordell Stewart fumble. This worked out for the best, because 2 plays later, Chris Oldham intercepted a Bobby Hoying pass, and returned it 64 yards for a touchdown.

Philadelphia failed on all 5 third down attempts.

Our Secondary was finally starting to play as Superbowl contenders. Lake was outstanding once again, Washington had his best game as a Steeler, and Townsend had a sack. Townsend also leads the team in tackles so far with 10. Bobby Hoying was 7-13 for 38 yards, and he didn't have a pass go for more than 11 yards.

The second half started out promising enough. Mike Tomczac led us to another T.D. and a 17-0 lead. Our back-ups proved to be fallible though, as they gave up 3 Koy Detmer touchdown passes in the final 17 minutes.

This was not really that big a deal, unless your one of the people trying to make the team. I'm sure coach Cowher had his notepad out.

This is really the only thing that is concerning me so far. There seems to be a lack of desire in the back up players. Maybe it's not a lack of desire as much as it is a lack of talent. Our starters can take us to the big show this year. I hope their is enough ammunition on the bench in case of injuries.
