Sthalapuranam

Of the four Saivite Saints of Literary Fame, Saint Thirunavukkarasu, otherwise endearingly called 'Appar', was the only Saint to have undertaken a Pilgrimage on foot to Kailash, the Snow-Clad Mountain abode of Lord Shiva, that too at his ripe age. The All Merciful Lord unable to tolerate his untold sufferings, stopped him midway and bade him return to Thiruviyaru, assuring him to give His darshan.

With his mind solely fixed on the prospective vision of the Lord, the saint looked upon all the Deities on the way, as the reflection of Lord Kailashanathar.

The Millennium old Deity at Mullangudi Madagusalai Temple not only reminded the Saint of the Lord of Kailash, but also enraptured him to such an extent that his longing bust into a song in praise of this deity.

The Mullangudi Shrine has the Unique and Special Privilege of being associated with and adored by Saint Thirunavukkarasu. The very remembrance of Lord Kailasanathar & Ambal Sri Kamakshi Amman, bless one with Prosperity, Bliss, both here and hereafter, and what to talk of a visit to, a Worship of, and a Service to This Lord.
