Temple History: This has been historically associated with the Saivaite Queen Mangaiyar-karasi of Madurai, who at the rejuvenation of her husband - hunch-backed - Pandiya King (Koon Pandiyan) with the Blessings of Poet Divine Sri Sambandamurthy, got a series of Temples for Sri Meenakshi and Sri Sundareswarar / Sri Chokka-nathar in her birth place, Chozha Domain.

Many rare / invaluable vigrahas and icons of Chola King days, in this Temple, continue to represent the rich Cultural Heritage handed down to us.
Renovation Activities: The rare Brick Arch Roof and Vimanam (built even before Cement was known to us) were in a ruined condition. Renovation work in the entire structure of this ruined Big Temple was carried out utilising the latest Building Technology.

A sum of Rupees Five Lakhs, received from a Number of Devotees, has been spent to renovate this Temple. On completion of Renovation, this very Ancient Temple regained its own good old Sculptural and Architectural Beauty.
