POLICE STORY
AKA Jackie Chans Police Force
Jackie Chan films are nearly always a combination of spectacular stunt work, amazingly efficient fight choreography, and side splitting slapstick comedy. And police story has all three of these elements at full speed.

Directed by Chan in 1985, Police story is about Kevin Chan (Jackie) a cop who has to look after a gangster’s moll after she decides to give evidence. The mob want her out of the way top keep her from doing so, so they try and bump her off but with Kevin protecting her they’ll have a hard job. All the while trying to hold togther his chaotic relationship with his girlfriend, May (Played by Maggie Cheung) who becomes somewhat suspicous when chan arrives home, not knowing about his surprise birthday party, in a compromising position with the woman he is protecting.
Kevin uncovers police corruption, when one of his friends is working for the mob. Kevin is framed for his murder and goes out to reek revenge. The finale in the shopping mall has to be one of the most amazing scenes in kung fu cinema since Bruce Lee took on Chuck Norris in Way of the Dragon. Glass is broken over peoples heads left, right and centre, Kevin rides a motorbike through the mall and slides down a pole covered in lights. Not suprisingly, the crew nicknamed the movie “Glass story”.
The bone crunching finale.
Chan the man!!!
Stunts are always a main feature in Chan’s movies as I said, and police story contains some of his classics. For example hanging from a speeding bus by only an umbrella handle, pulling his co star Maggie Cheung out of the way of a car that is hurling down the street with out its hand break off and many more…
Police story spawned 3 sequels, Police story 2, 3:Supercop and 4 (First Strike). Also worth mentioning is a spin off film of Michelle Yeoh’s character in Supercop, with a cameo from Jackie Chan, called Project S (Which has been confusingly re released recently as Supercop)

Police Story will always be a favourite of mine as it was one of the first Chan’s movies I saw as a child, and a classic to boot.
