"I'm not even supposed to be here today!"
Kevin Smiths debut goes to prove that a good script and great characters goes a hell of a lot further than a multi-million dollar budget and waste full CGI.

Telling the story of a day in the life of two store clerks in New Jersey. Dante who works in the Quick stop convenience store, and his friend Randall who works next door in RST video. Throughout the day we are introduced to the dumb customers they have to put up with and the regulars who drop by. Most notably, the two drug dealers that operate outside the stores, Jay and Silent Bob.
We find out that Dante’s main problem is with relationships, as he struggles to keep a stable one with his girlfriend Veronica, and gets a shock when he finds out that his old flame Caitlin is getting married to an Asian design major.
On the other hand Randall has a problem with basically everybody, passing churlish remarks to the customers, selling cigarettes to six-year-olds and constantly pissing Dante off with his relationship advise and stealing of drinks.

Other occurrences include a funeral, which results in an “accident”, a dead guy that gets lucky in the bathroom and a hockey game on the store roof.
Kevin Smith financed the movie with his own money, and working at the Quick stop store. A keen eye can notice certain people playing more than one character in the film. Most of the cast is actually Smiths friends and family, including Smiths own mother as the “milk maid”.

It’s the quick witty dialogue that makes this film such a fun watch. From Jays rambling about drugs to Randalls speech on the death of innocent independent contractors on the uncompleted death star in Return of the Jedi.
A truly original film, that sits nicely in any fans collection of independent cinema.
