Carolina K. Wright was our first experience with a feral cat. She
appeared in the back yard when we lived in the city. She had two small
kitten babies with her, a jet black and a calico. She was very hungry
and had been living in the wild for a bit. She was extremely shy.
We had a portion of the back yard fenced separately from the dogs so she
stayed there with her babies. We fed them and slowly they loss some of
their fear of us.
As the kittens grew up, it became evident that gentleman cats would soon
come calling so we trapped the cats. We called the mum "Mama Hiss" because
she was quite hissy at humans. We called the little ones "Lady Midnight"
and "Calli Victoria." All three were spayed and placed in outdoor condos.
As time went by, they were moved inside to a spare bedroom and became quite
gentle. Mama Hiss was the last to tame.
She was cyber-adopted by a good friend in North Carolina and renamed
"Carolina." It has been four years now and she is a loving sweet lady
who finally put on some weight and looks much better than in those old
"feral" days. We estimate her age at 5 in 2004 because she was a young mummy
when she first appeared and her children are 4 years old.
