SPECIAL ISSUE
GRAND HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS
Criteria for top alumni selection,
program of activities now available

The criteria for the selection of outstanding LCHS alumni achievers have been approved by the LCHS-AA Board of Directors. The set of criteria was drafted by the awards committee headed by Vy Beng Hong.  Meanwhile, the tentative program of activities for the grand homecoming has been completed by the program committee headed by Rodolfo Yu. The criteria and tentative program are published in this issue for the information of all LCHS alumni concerned.

About this special issue

This issue is a Special Edition.  Every once in a while, the Spectrum comes out with a special edition to disseminate important announcements and major news breaks for the benefit of its readers. This week's special edition is issued primarily to disseminate two items of significance to LCHS alumni: (1) The criteria for the selection of outstanding alumni achievers; and (2) Preliminary program of activities of the grand homecoming. The affair is exactly a year away today. Henceforth, between now and grand homecoming day, more special editions will be issued to disseminate top-priority circulars of the Reunion Committee as the need arises.

Deepest sympathy to Maning Te
Sat, 24 Jul 1999 20:11:36 -0600

Our deepest sympathy to Maning Te and his family on the sudden death of his beloved wife, Chin-Chin. May the words of our Lord Jesus Christ console and give solace to the bereaved members of the family in their moments of sorrow and grief: "I am the resurrection and the life. Those who believe in me, even though they die, will live, and every one who lives and believes in me will never die."

Life in Taiwan
Mon, 26 Jul 1999 18:13:55 -0700

The Spectrum is great. It's fantastic. The staff deserves to be congratulated for the wonderful work. It's not just communicating but also keeping us abreast with our hometown, our alma mater, our school mates, and friends. Keep the good work going!  I'm doing fine here in Taiwan. I spend my daily life in the Emergency Department or at home. Let me give you a bird's eye view of our ER. The floor area is about three forth the size of the entire block where our store was once situated in Iligan City. We have our own operating room, CT-scan, X-ray, ICU, observation room, pharmacy, laboratory, conference room, and four stations for examining patients with different cases, like surgical, medical, pediatric, severe trauma and severely ill adult and pediatric patients. Total patients seen in the ER per day (on straight 24 hrs. basis) is 250 to 300. It is really a very sensitive, very tense and very exhausting place to stay. I'm now on my seventh year in the ER. I thank God for all the blessings He has given me.

Open letter to grand reunion chairpersons

It will be appropriate to trim down the number of outstanding alumni awards, basing their achievement through recognition not only by our fellow alumni themselves but also by the general public as well. This way, the selection will not be biased or be scrutinized adversely. The categories may cover humanitarian, political, education, philanthropic and community services.

I just returned from Cebu City to arrange for our annual convention of the Philippine Masonic Association of America, Inc. (PMAAI) for the coming millennium (July 28-31, 2000), to be held at the Cebu Plaza Hotel. We are expecting 400 delegates from East to West coasts. The First night is a barrio fiesta (welcome party).  Second night is Luau-Hawaiian motif.  Both nights to be attended by delegates & their family members. The third night is the Gala Night, with formal wear as the dress code, exclusive for adults.

I know our alumni grand reunion will have more numbers and programs. Thus the venues for the different activities may vary but please select some suitable places where we can feel at home. Day time activities may involve the plenary session, educational exchange, tours, and sports. And don't forget to include a picnic on the beach.

Those are only my suggestions. The ultimate decision will still have to be made by the overall chairman - with due respect.
