UWI Students Assist The Less Fortunate During The Christmas Season.
Students of The University Of The West Indies were able to make this Christmas season a little brighter for a number of families. One of the student organizations on the campus, UWIAID - Solutions For Hunger, held a massive food collection drive earlier this month, and both students and staff contributed generously to this venture.
The club was able to donate to a number of families across the country. Several of these were from the St. Augustine area. Eleven additional boxes were donated to the Member of Parliament for Fyzabad, Mr. Chandresh Sharma, for distribution to the victims of floods in that constituency earlier this year.
According to the club's President, Jason Nathu, "The response this year has been overwhelming. We collected much more than we did last year, and this goes to show that UWI students recognize the problem of poverty in Trinidad and Tobago. Many people complain that young people today have no morals, but this demonstrates very clearly that UWI students are very generous, and that we do have a heart."
The club wishes to thank all the students and staff members of The University Of The West Indies for their generous contributions towards this venture. Special thanks to VegOut Café Limited, the Guild Of Students, the Pharmacy Students Association as well as to the national media for their support of the food-drive.
UWIAID - Solutions For Hunger plans to hold a similar event during the next semester. Members of the public may learn more about the club by visiting its website at
