As the snails came, the situation was explained to each one so work could begin right away. The first group acted as the foundation of the stairwell while each subsequent group added an additional layer until a sloping structure with a scalable gradient was formed. It took nearly six hours but they finally finished. "Pull your head in so I won't step on it," the frog said.

Remembering the problems of the previous attempt, the frog gingerly put his foot down on the shell of the first snail and waited to see if there would be any problem. Since no one cried out in pain, he continued, always careful to jump off the moment trouble started. Even as he neared the top and was overcome with excitement, he still climbed slowly and carefully.
