Here's an
interesting postcard I picked up at a swap meet. It shows a contingent
of young Chinese students of English who won a scholastic competition.
The prize was a tour of the United States. When the little tour group hit
Hollywood, they were given the opportunity to meet the favorite actor of
their choice. And who did these young movie fans unanimously decide upon?
Why, Peter Lorre, of course!
This picture
shows Peter answering questions and having a pleasant conversation with
this lucky group of savvy cinemaphiles. It is reported that he spent more
than two hours with them, and took them all out for ice-cream sodas afterwards. What
wonderful memories of that day these children must have carried with them!
This picture
appears to have been taken at about the time Peter was making "Arsenic
and Old Lace" (1944).
