Here's an interesting item that was produced during the late 1930s. These Peter Lorre Hummels were quite popular in Europe as well as the United States. There were about four different poses available in the Peter Lorre series. This particular one was entitled, "Golly! I Hope It Doesn't Rain!"
If you can
find one of these today, by all means, snap it up! They fetch top dollar
among Hummel collectors.
The Maltese Hummel
This Hummel
was made as a publicity tie-in for the very successful Warner Bros. film,
"The Maltese Falcon."
I think the
creators of this Hummel did a wonderful job of capturing the essence of
the film in this little statuette.
Here we see
the two characters, Joel Cairo (Peter Lorre) and Caspar Gutman (Sydney
Greenstreet) in collusion with each other, pitting their wits against a
somewhat baffled Sam Spade (Humphrey Bogart).
It is no
wonder this is such a highly prized piece among Hummel collectors today!
