Story: Steve Englehart
Art: Jorge Santamaria/Scott Hanna

Summary: The newly restored Mantis battles the mad god, Thanos as the Avengers look on! Eager to help, Silverclaw tries to rush in only to be stopped by Thor who explains that Mantis needs this fight to help affirm who she is now that she is whole again! Thanos quickly realizes that the fully integrated Celestial Madonna is too much trouble to bother killing. Before departing, Thanos reveals that killing Mantis was not a necessity and that her presence will not stop him from killing her son, the Celestial Messiah!

The Avengers and Mantis set off to save her son, Sequoia! The Scarlet Witch tries to leave Lupe behind, but once again Silverclaw asserts that she is an Avenger and that rushing into space to save the day is all part of the deal! On the long journey to the home planet of the Cotati, the Avengers catch up with one another. Mantis retells her origin and clears up her mysterious whereabouts since becoming the Celestial Madonna. She reaches out to Silverclaw in particular, remembering what it was like to be the "new girl" among more seasoned Avengers. Mantis also picks up where she left off with the Vision, seeking solace on the long trip from the android Avenger. Unlike the last time Mantis pursued the crimson synthezoid, the Vision is single and interested this time! Very interested!

Comments: This issue establishes a slight banter between Silverclaw and Haywire and reveals his angst around the loss of his girlfriend, Inertia!
