New Activities and Web Page Modifications
By: John Wendt WA6BFH

Through the course of the last year or so the Tech Bench Elmers mandate has changed a bit. Actually it is not so much of a change but more of a broadening of interests. While original projects and activities are still in the works, other focal point issues have arisen on the horizon.

Our microwave projects are still very much a part of the forefront, and we encourage those who have interest in either the aspects of 10 GHz. analog wideband FM voice, or even television or telemetry. We also still plan to add high speed data capabilities to this high speed wide bandwidth microwave medium.

Our antenna projects continue, and refinements to the data already accumulated are also being worked upon with several new ideas and expeditionary trips to follow. One such activity is planned for not even a month away, and can be read about in more detail on the "Calendar Page".

Finally, in the realm of the sciences at large you will note some hopefully interesting additions to our web page. Most of these are related to the science of understanding radio propagation, which is of course timely as we are very near to the 11 year "Sun Spot" cycle peak. As we approach cycle peak 23, the web page reader will be able to use many of the "solar" or "MUF" links to be found on our "Links Page", and by this means will be able to accumulate a broader spectrum of data that will help in working radio "DX".

Also for sake of the sciences we have added several Astronomy links and a new Astronomy sub-section. Over the course of many years I have found it an axiom that astronomy is an often popular "next hobby" with many Hams, and I have found also that Amateur (Ham) Radio is often a popular hobby with professional astronomers!

As a further practical matter we have also included some handy weather related links to the "Links Page". These may be interesting to many readers as merely handy tools but, they are also quite useful to assess weather conditions at or near our remote antenna test site or other locations where we are planning trips or tours. Lastly we have included a maps and geography link that may help you to find these locations.

So, enjoy the page, read up about our activities, and maybe even come on out and play with us!
