When's it coming out?
Sometime in 2001 in
Japan. No official word yet on a North American release yet, but the original
ended up being a part of the Playstation's "Greatest Hits" series,
so it's very likely to be released stateside.
Take a look at the previews-- this one's self-explanatory. Konami is obviously aiming at making Silent Hill 2 a sequel in the ranks of Metal Gear Solid 2-- in other words, an extensive (and graphically impressive) reworking of a proven formula.
How does it tie in with the Playstation Silent Hill?
The details are scarce, but it doesn't seem to have much to do with Silent Hill other than the fact that it takes place in the same town. Of course, there's nothing so far that indicates it won't tie in at all with the first game, and the message boards are already buzzing about the possibilities (helped along by a screenhot of a little girl sitting on a concrete wall whose presence was not explained anywhere).
What's the story?
Players assume
the identity of James Sanderland, who mysteriously receives a letter from
his wife who passed away three years before the start of the story. In
the letter, Sanderland's wife tells him to come to a resort in Silent
Hill to which he had promised to take her. Upon his arrival, James meets
a woman named Maria who eerily resembles his dead wife... and that's all
that is officially known.
Seriously?
Yes! If you're
that upset about it, contact Konami. I didn't make it up, I'm just reporting
it.
