The town of Quincy is located on the Mississippi River about halfway between St. Louis and the Quad Cities. Q Stadium is used today by the Quincy Gems of the Central Illinois Collegiate League. Built in 1937 entirely of stones from the local area, it was home to minor league baseball for almost thirty years serving the Yankees, Giants, Mets and Cubs organizations:
Quincy Gems, Class B Three-I League, 1946-56
Quincy Giants, Class D Midwest League, 1960-61
Quincy Jets, Class D Midwest League, 1962
Quincy Jets, Class A Midwest League, 1963
Quincy Cubs, Class A Midwest League, 1965-73
This is absolutely without question one of the most charming old minor league stadiums you'll ever visit. Even though minor league baseball is no longer played here, Quincy University occupies this ballpark's springtime, while collegiate summer league baseball, a truly enjoyable talent level, fills out the summer months. No ballpark collector should miss this wonderful venue.
Two rows of plastic patio chairs form the box seats which run between the dugouts behind home plate. Behind them is a walkway and then general admission bleacher seating makes up the remainder of the grandstand seating. The press box is located above the central exit passageway behind home plate.
