COLUMBIAN PARK

Lafayette, Indiana

Columbian Park in central Lafayette is a wonderful municipal park with a zoo, water slide park, picnic areas, and a ballpark. Built in 1940, Loeb Stadium has a somewhat brief history of minor league baseball serving the Indians and Red Sox organizations as well as independent professional baseball:

Lafayette Chiefs, Class D Mississippi - Ohio Valley League, 1955

Lafayette Chiefs, Class D Midwest League, 1956-57

Lafayette Leopards, independent Great Central League, 1994

Lafayette Leopards, independent Mid-America League, 1995

Lafayette Leopards, independent Heartland League, 1996-98

The place was closed and locked when I stopped by with a camera, but thanks to two very hospitable park representatives, I was generously allowed access to take these pictures. This ballpark is used for community baseball and it is also the annual host of the Colt World Series which had just finished a few days prior to my visit.
