BERNIE ARBOUR MEMORIAL STADIUM

Hamilton, Ontario

The city of Hamilton has had a busy history of pro baseball dating back to the 1880's. Bernie Arbour Memorial Stadium was the home of the Class A Hamilton Redbirds, a St. Louis Cardinals team in the New York - Penn League from 1988-92. This ballpark has been used by the semipro Hamilton Cardinals of the Intercounty Major Baseball League, in fact they were getting ready for a playoff game in August of 2002 when I stopped by with my camera. This was pretty typical of a low-level minor league yard a generation or two ago, and while it's a terrific venue for collegiate summer ball, it would need a little updating to produce the experience of a typical 21st century minor league ballpark.
