The NCAA Division 1 College World Series is played every year at Rosenblatt Stadium in Omaha, Nebraska. These photos are from the game between Rice University and Southwest Missouri State University on June 14, 2003.
Rice went on to win the College World Series on June 23rd, the first national championship (in any sport) in the school's history. They beat Stanford in the championship game by the score of 14-2 which set a new record for margin of victory in a baseball championship game (12 runs, previous record was 11 runs, accomplished twice -- once by Stanford who were defeated by Miami in their last title game appearance in 2001 by the score of 12-1). Stanford's Sam Fuld set the record for career CWS hits with 24 (previous record 23). Stanford lost in the title game for the third time in four years while this was the fourth appearance for Rice in the College World Series and they had won just one of seven CWS games in previous years.
