A Day in the Life
(For Terry who sadly lost the fight)
One winters day as I set out
Cursing the cold wind
that threw my hair about
This was wrong, and that was wrong
And why are all those queues so long
Why do I have to cook today?
I hate shopping, get out of my way!
Feeling sorry for myself
I saw an old friend who gave a smile
I thought... I'll stop and chat awhile
he always makes me laugh
How are you Terry? I shouted with a grin,
long time no see, are you under the thumb now
and getting your wife's tea?
Yes Shirl, he replied in a strange voice
Since I've been ill, I've had no choice
I do the shopping and help when I can
You see, the doctor tells me, I'm a very sick man
I have cancer now, but don't worry, I'll fight!
I've only two more Chemo left to go!
And with shinning eyes that seemed to stare
He said, I'm lucky Shirl; I haven’t even lost my hair.
I stared in disbelief at my old friend
What could I say to make amend!
I'm so sorry Terry!
And, Have a nice day!! No...
I couldn't think of a single thing to say, only
If you need me I'm always home, please...
don’t hesitate to pick up the phone.
The cold wind didn't seem to bother me now
As it threw and tossed my hair
With a heavy heart, I went home to cook the dinner
Thinking.. Why is life so unfair?
I shouted out loud, Why Lord! Why!!
Answer me Lord.. Is this your bloody choice!
And.. As usual, I heard.. No Voice.
Life is like a sunny day; enjoy it now, before it fades… away.
