Monday, September 19, 2005 - We Cannot Get Enough of Cappadocia

We spend the morning walking around Goreme. My eyes do not get enough of the scenery. Every place is a postcard view. What is especially unique here is the combination of nature and humanity. How people used natural formations to carve their homes and add modern construction. There is an odd mixture of modern and the ultra conservative, with veiled women in traditional baggy trousers next to tourists. As you walk around the city, you stumble into endless vineyards loaded with grapes, some already dry.

Budgeting for our trip: Our budget is about $100.00 per day including the flight tickets. In turkey it is very easy to stay on budget, and both Benny and I enjoy it, we enjoy the challenge of finding a good deal. It is almost a game or a personal challenge. I find that there is a joy in limitations, in restricting yourself. When you have unlimited budget, and you can buy anything that you want and you want more and more and more, where is the end.

Was it Tolstoy who said, "the enemy of good is better?" (My friend Dina told me that clever phrase before our departure).

If something is good, why do you want more?

Love,

Me
