Demo Universe review
The Shag Bark Hickory Anthology/None Of These Guys Watch Friends
various artists
cassette - arrived April 26, 1996

Side one presents 16 songs by Shag Bark Hickory, a goofy bunch of musical anarchists with a gift for great titles: "These Pants Are Huge," "I Lost My Spoon Behind The Stove," "Narcoleptic With Big Hair" and "I Love You (Like A Bullet In The Face)" are among my favorites. Their two main weapons are humor, noise and eclecticism. Three main weapons: humor, noise, eclecticism and a fanatical devotion to the Pope. Four weapons! Uhh...anyway, it goes on for a long time, and it's very silly and lo-fi and you might like it if you're a total spazz. Side two brings together SBH friends and side projects. Ya getz punk-rock from Wafer Thin (who win the name game with the otherwise dreadful "Chihuahuas In My Afro"), techno-rock by Broken Reality (a solo project by Tape Records' Jason Coffman), the slacker stylings of Han Solo's Gun (a "Jedi mind trick"), a Coffman noise-trip called Sometimes ("Some sounds may cause speaker damage." Believe it.), and four more tunes by the fabulous Shag Bark Hickory!
