11th October - Honda bring new engine to Suzuka.

Speaking at Suzuka, Kazutoshi Nishizawa, Honda Racing Development's technical director, has said that the car giant will be running a higher specification engine this weekend at Suzuka, according to tradition.

Honda have always brought a new engine to their home race and this year it will be more important than ever with the season coming down to a one race duel between Jordan and BAR to settle the ‘Best of Honda’ battle. The two teams are equal on 17points in the constructor’s championship so a top six finish is vital. Although pretty unlikely, they will also be trying to make up the 5 point shortfall to 4th place in the championship.
"We've brought a different specification engine for this race,” said Mr Nishizawa. "We've made a reasonable step (in development) so I hope it helps our teams this weekend. Not a little step, a reasonable step."

He also confirmed that Honda's 2002 wide angle engine is currently dyno testing. "Regarding the new engine, at present we are continuing with the dyno testing programme and everything is on schedule,” he stated. "“I don't think it's so important (to track test the engine) because so many things can be done with modern dynos. If we can do a track test, it would be helpful but it's not so important, we can do many things on the dynos."
