Away from all the hype of Sato's announcement, Eddie Jordan has confirmed he working with Jean Alesi to try and find a role for the Frenchman with the team next year.

Sunday will see Jean drive in his 201st Grand Prix and with the decision to partner Sato with Fisichella in the EJ12, it could be his last.

The Frenchman has been giving mixed signal regarding what he wants to do in the future. He said been quoted as saying he wants to end his career with Jordan, but on other occasions has asked Eddie to make a decision quickly to allow him to look elsewere.

If he wants to race in 2002, there doesn't seem to be much around at this stage, with a seat at Arrows looking the most appetising. If he decides to call it quits, Eddie wants his to stay in some role or other.
"Jean has been an inspiration to the team and it is our wish that he finds a role with Jordan for the future. We are currently working on defining this role and hope to announce it in due course," Jordan remarked. "He's a very, very dear friend of mine. For me, I would like Jean to stay as a teacher. He has a huge knowledge. He can help us a lot in many ways ... in testing and evaluating the cars. He has always told me he would like to finish his lifetime with Jordan."
