8th October - Wilson waits.

Justin tests at Silverstone.
Briton Justin Wilson is expected to hear this week if he has done enough to convince the Jordan Formula 1 team to offer him a drive for next season in either a race or test seat.

Wilson, who won this year's Formula 3000 championship, had an impressive first drive in an F1 car at Silverstone a few weeks ago getting two days in an EJ11. He further boosted his hopes of claiming a seat by putting in another eye-catching performance during testing with the Jordan team last week at Mugello.

The seat alongside Giancarlo Fisichella seems to be between current driver Jean Alesi, Japanese rising star Takuma Sato and Wilson. Alesi has understandably sent a public ultimatum to team boss Eddie Jordan asking for an announcement on the team's 2002 drivers before the Japanese Grand Prix so Wilson's future looks set to be decided this week.

"It's gone very well," said Wilson of his two test sessions with the team. "I've enjoyed them both and now we'll have to wait and see what happens in the future. I am happy with my experience this week - the team has been very helpful and patient."

While Wilson might be considered the longshot for a race seat, all three do have something going for them. Alesi, who completed his 200th Grand prix at Indianapolis, obviously has by far the most experience. Sato has the backing of Honda, which must have some influence with Eddie as he considers who he wants to power his team in 2003 and beyond. Wilson, however, is British and Benson and Hedges, Jordan’s title sponsor, are known to want a British driver in their branded car.
