30th March - How Jarno Keeps Fit.

You have to be fitter than you might think to drive a Formula One car. The drivers are subject to varying levels of G-force, putting enormous strain on their bodies, for up to 2 hours during a race - often in extreme heat. Drivers have to train hard for the stresses of racing and different people workout in different ways.

Jarno Trulli is a keen runner, "Running has a very big effect on my driving as it keeps my muscles and heart in good shape", he explained. "I ran before I got into F1. I started a long time ago at an early age".

Asked about his interest in marathon running, he said, "The challenge motivated me to do a marathon. I started running with some friends and I hadn't entered a competition before, so decided to do the New York marathon in November 2000. I hadn't done the proper training for a marathon either so it was even more of a challenge". However, he has no plans to run a marathon again this year.

It's not easy combining the globe-trotting Formula One lifestyle with the need to stay fit. "It's impossible to fit specific training times into your daily schedule. I travel around the world and am working most days, so I train as much as I can. I am very disciplined in this area though and I'd never train less than every other day."
