22nd February - Jarno is ready to maximise any opportunity.

They were times in 2000 when the EJ10 was very quick.
3 front row qualifications (all others were Ferrari or McLaren) are testament to this. Alas for Jarno Trulli, in his first season with Jordan, two of those hot qualifying laps were virtually the only things he can look back on and take comfort from.

With the 2001 season about to start he is, not surprisingly, forecasting a brighter turn of events. “I was disappointed last year and we were not so happy. But we think we have really learnt a lot and we think we have built up a much more reliable car,” Trulli said.
“We have got a bigger chance because we have got an official engine deal from Honda and we have got a lot of support from them and the factory.”

Now entering his fifth season in formula one, Trulli is still awaiting his first victory (a second place in the European Grand Prix in 1999 being his best performance), but he feels it could be just around the corner. “I just need a little bit more luck and reliability. Last season was my best season because of the two front rows. I expected more in terms of results, but in terms of performance the season was not bad."

All the signs from a very intensive pre-season testing schedule suggest the car is now reliable. Heinz-Harald Frentzen finished pre-season testing with a 1:23.892 at Silverstone (about 2 seconds faster than the 2000 pole). This showed that, while they would not regularly expect to be on the pace of McLaren or Ferrari, if the big two slip up Trulli, or his teammate, could well be there to pick up the pieces.
