In a slightly ironic twist, Eddie Jordan, the man who pushed hardest for an enforced 3 week break from racing and testing, is the man who most needs to get his team time on the track.
Jean Alesi would hugely benefit from a normal test session that happens most other weeks during the season, but the timing of his joining the Irish team could not have been more unfortunate.
There is a small way round this ban though. Anything less than 50km does not constitute a test, it is classified as a 'demonstration' so Alesi will have his first run for Jordan on Monday next, when he will demonstrate his EJ11 for 30miles at Silverstone. His next run-out will be in free practise for the Hungarian Grand Prix.
He is not too worried about the situation though, "I'll only be able to do 50km (30 miles) in the EJ11 because testing is banned during the break before Budapest. It's not a big problem, though I'm keen to see what the car can do."
