Testing took place at a chilly Silverstone today (Tuesday), where, thanks to a stiff breeze, temperatures never rose above 7 degrees Celsius. As this is the last testing session before the re-introduction of traction control at the Spanish Grand Prix a large turn-out of teams was always expected.
All work today concentrated on traction control, with tyre testing beginning tomorrow. As the Circuit de Catalunya is one of the hardest-wearing tracks for tyres the teams are expected to evaluate the hardest compounds available to them.
Heinz-Harald was top of the timesheets, completing 69 trouble-free laps. The more cynical might suggest that he achieved the fastest time because several sponsors and guests were present at the circuit !
The team hosted hospitality for some 250 guests in all, including sponsors and Club Jordan members, some of whom had flown in from Ireland specially for the occasion. Guests were treated to a lunch and afternoon tea overlooking the circuit’s pit lane, with Eddie Jordan making a star appearance for a question and answer session on stage. Guests also enjoyed garage and factory tours.
Ricardo Zonta also completed a successful first day, running an aerodynamics test until 7 p.m. at the straight line circuit of Lurcy Levis in France.
The team will continue testing in both locations for the next two days, with further hospitality at Silverstone on Wednesday and Thursday.
