15th April - Double points finish for Jordan.

An exciting San Marino Grand Prix saw both Jordans finish in the points for the first time since race 2 of 2000.

Jarno had an excellent start, moving from 5th to 3rd - a position he held until the first round of pit-stops. When the red lights went out Heinz-Harald was not so lucky, slipping from 9th to 11th to avoid trouble at the first corner.
Following the pit-stops both Jordan drivers had a steady race, running 6th and 7th, with no one really challanging them for position. They both moved up a place when Montoya had troubles in the pits, and from then on had a trouble free run to the finish.
The result continued Jordan's run of scoring points in every race this year, with Heinz score in 3 of the first four races, and Jarno, 2 from 4.

“This was a good result and I am particularly happy since this is the first time I have finished a race here in Imola,” Jarno said. “It is excellent to have scored points for the second race in a row and for the team to have scored points in four out of four races. I had a good start and made it up to third by the first corner where I stayed for twenty laps. I was having a great race and keeping a steady pace for the first ten laps but was then actually pulling away from Mika. Unfortunately, after my first pit stop I had a problem with a bad set of tyres which made me struggle. Montoya caught me after his pit stop and was able to accelerate faster than me and brake later. With my next set of tyres I could keep the pace though. It’s a shame as I could possibly have had a podium, but I had a great race”.

“To have scored three additional points is a satisfying result for the team,” said Heinz-Harald, “I didn’t have a good start and lost two places when I had to take evasive action to avoid collisions in the first few corners, so to have come back from 11th to win a point is pretty good. The car performed very well during the race with no problems, but there was nothing more we could do today to catch the leaders. I would also like to congratulate Ralf for a very impressive first win”.

“It is great to earn points again and see both drivers finishing in the top six,” Eddie commented. “They both did an excellent job. The race was pretty uneventful for us – simply a solid performance which showed that our car is a big step forward from last year’s in terms of reliability. But today shows again that this is going to be a tough season and we have more work to do to catch up with the front runners. A ‘big hand’ to Ralf as well for his first victory.” “It was good that both Jordan Hondas scored more points today but on the other hand we did not fare so well with the BAR Hondas,” commented Honda's Director, Kazutoshi Nishizawa. “We must work even harder than ever to challenge for the podium."
