4th February - Hamidy off to pastures new?

Eghbal.
Rumours are starting to circulate that Pat Symonds, Renault's current engineering director, is to leave the and will be announced as part of the Jordan senior management team at the EJ12 launch in mid February.

Jordan are already fairly top-heavy in the senior engineer area so Hamidy could be on his way to pastures new.

Currently Jordan have Eghbal Hamidy, Tim Holloway and Gary Anderson all doing parts of what other Technical Directors do.
Hamidy, as Technical Director, heads up the team responsible for the design of the Jordan-Honda EJ12.
Tim Holloway, as Head of Engineering, is listed on the Jordan official site as 'heading up the same core team which has been responsible for the design and build of the 1999, 2000, 2001 and 2002 cars' - very similar job spec to Hamidy.
Then there is the newly returned Gary Anderson, the Director of Race and Test Engineering. He is responsible for the development of the Jordan Honda EJ12, working to feed back information from races and tests to the design office.

Clearly there is overlap and it is thought that Hamidy, who, when he joined, expected to have control of the design and development of the car is unhappy with his reduced role.

Where Symonds will fit in is as yet unclear, but he obviously brings a lot of experience with him. It is rumoured that the Englishman will join as technical director, working closely with Gary Anderson.
Symonds was technical director of the team from 1996 until last season, when Mike Gascoyne left Jordan to join Benetton-Renault as it then was. It is believed that Gascoyne quickly became the most senior of the two and the new Renault 202 is mostly Gascoyne's work.

Symonds joined the team, when it was Toleman and moved up through the ranks as it became Benetton. He became technical director in 1996, but the arrival of Mike Gascoyne, from Jordan, has seen him take a sideways move.
