In eleven years in F1, Jordan have 3 Grand Prix vistories to their name. They first stepped onto the top step of the podium in 1998, and followeed that win up with 2 more in 1999. Since then even podiums have been hard to come by, but now Eddie Jordan thinks that it's time for his team to win again.
"It's time we won again," the Irishman said. “When you get a taste for winning, and it's been a while now, it's like a needle in the arm. Formula One is like a drug and I want us to be winning again.
Eddie thinks that Jordan have as good a chance as many of achieving a win in the 2002 season, but it will be tough. “It will not be easy as there are a lot of manufacturers involved and everyone wants results. It's going to be the most open championship for years and that's fantastic. It is worth remembering that only four of the current teams have won Grands Prix, the recognised top three, Ferrari, McLaren and Williams, plus ourselves.
“To win you have to have a huge amount of luck as well as all the other elements. You can't discount the likes of Sauber, while Renault will be very strong."
To win, Eddie knows that you need talented drivers, and he believes he has two. He is confident that Giancarlo Fisichella and Takuma Sato will be able to maximise the opportunities presented to them and can help Jordan to challenge the top teams again.
"Fisichella is without doubt one of the top three drivers in the world," Jordan said. "You have to recognise Michael Schumacher's position as No 1 but I believe Fisichella is one of the two who might, in the future, be capable of challenging him. But of course he needs the car and the backing to have that possibility.
“Sato is here on merit. He is here because he has the talent. What he achieved in Formula Three is truly remarkable.
“I am much happier now going to Australia: Taku is on a very strong level, Giancarlo has already been there, the car is better, the engine is better and everything is better all round."
