18th February - Eddie Jordan would like more time.

Eddie Jordan has admitted he would like more time to prepare the EJ12 for the upcoming season.

The Silverstone-based team’s new car has shown flashes of promise in the hands of Takuma Sato and Giancarlo Fisichella but there has been little evidence of the required consistency.

Jordan’s preparations suffered a setback at Valencia two weeks ago when Fisichella crashed heavily in one of the EJ12s, injuring his knees in the process. Last week at Barcelona a regular series of small engine problems stopped the team from finishing their scheduled work. Honda and Jordan engineers are confident, however, that the cause has been identified and fixed.

Jordan said, "You always want the car to be quicker. There are aspects to it that I really like but there are also aspects to it that makes me feel I’d like a little more time (before the start of the season)."

This week, the team will spend 3 days at Silverstone trying to iron out those niggley little problems that are stopping the EJ12 from showing its true potential. Takuma Sato is also keen to finish a race distance in his race chassis.
However, Jordan knows that F1’s punishing schedule is the same for his rival team bosses, "But the great thing about this sport is that you have to do all of the events. You can’t just pull out if you want to like in golf and tennis, you’re committed to the whole championship.
"Australia’s the first event and you have to be there.”

The EJ12 commercial launch takes place this Friday, just in time for the cars and spares to be begin their long journey to Melbourne on Saturday.
