11th February - Hamidy says 'I'm staying'.

Eghbal.
Rumors circulating last week suggested that Eghbal Hamidy, Jordan’s Technical Director, was about to be replaced by Pat Symonds, currently Engineering Director at Renault.

The Iranian was said to have been unhappy with his current position in the Irish team as he has only part of the ‘power’ that other Technical Directors have. He concentrates on the aerodynamics of the cars, leaving much of the specification design and development work to Tim Holloway, who is Head of Engineering, and Gary Anderson, as Director of Test and Race Teams.

Eghbal joined Jordan at the beginning of 2001, having previously worked at Williams and Arrows, but has kept a low profile since starting with the Irish team.
Much of the PR work a Technical Director might do was done in 2001 by Holloway and now Anderson seems to be taking over for 2002.

Eghbal has now adamantly denied these stories, telling formula1.com that he was frustrated by the rumours. "I don't know where these reports have come from. I am very happy at Jordan and expect to be here for some time," he said.

He had been hailed as an aerodynamics ace, following Arrows show of straight-line speed with an underpowered engine in 2000, and the EJ12 will be the first Jordan car to fully show his work. But it had been speculated that Hamidy's induction into the team had not been a happy one, and there had been talk of possible disagreements between him and ex-Jordan Technical Director, Gary Anderson.

It is difficult, at this stage, to tell how effective his work on the EJ12 has been.
Testing has not been sparkling for Jordan to date, although historically it is not a true indication of where teams will be on the grid in Melbourne. Eddie Jordan is also thought to have reservations about the performance of the new Honda engine.

We can expect clarification of all personnel issues at the EJ12 launch, sometime next week and Eghbal's skills will only become apparent in Qualifying in Australia.
