Return of the Tragic Priestess, Kikyou | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
![]() |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
This episode starts right where the last one left off. Inuyasha and the others are falling off the cliff, and Inu uses a tree limb to slow his fall. He lands on the ground in the middle of the now-destroyed clay warriors, and pops out of the remains, wondering where Kagome and the others are. He looks up, and watches as a giant leaf falls towards him. The leaf lands directly on Inuyasha, and we find out that Kaede and Shippou are sitting comfortably, hoping Inu's okay. Inuyasha crawls out from under the leaf, and tells them to get off. Some of the clay warriors are still able to move, and start to attack Inuyasha again, only to be easily defeated by the Tetsusaiga. Shippou tells Inuyasha and Kagome's kidnapping, while Kaede goes to look closer at the fallen warriors. Orbs of light start to rise from them, and Kaede explains to Inuyasha when he asks that they are the souls Urasue used to reanimate the soldiers. She steps closer and picks up a piece of broken warrior, pointing out that the clay had human bones inside of it as well. She is horrified at Urasue's magic, and reminds them that Urasue has Kikyou's remains, and Kagome. Kaede starts to try and climb up the cliff, but her wound hurts her, and Inuyasha tells her to stay behind while he gets Kikyou's remains. Kaede tells him that time is important, since they might soon be facing none other than Kikyou herself. Inu's shocked and yells that Kikyou's dead, but Kaede points out that Urasue has all she needs to revive Kikyou, and that they might soon be facing a very formidable foe. At the top of the cliff, Kagome's tied up and laying in what appears to be a clay tub, with green water and herbs around her, as Urasue continues to pour her green water into the tub. Kagome complains that it smells disgusting, but is distracted when Kikyou steps from the cave and looks at her. She asks who it is, and Urasue tells Kikyou that she is happy to see her up and dressed, especially in her priestess outfit. Urasue tells Kagome that the potion she's laying in will draw her soul from her body, and give Kikyou back her soul, while Kagome will be a member of the living dead. Kagome now realizes that the other girl is Kikyou. Inuyasha and the others are leaping up the cliff, Kaede on Inu's back. She winces from her wound, and Shippou tells Inu to slow down. Inuyasha asks whether he should slow down or speed up, and Kaede tells him to ignore her, and just hurry. They take off again, and Shippou agrees before following them. Kagome, though, is having difficulty breathing while the water around her starts to glow a bright green. Urasue wonders how Kagome is still alive, since her soul should have been drawn out already. Then she sees a glimpse of light, and realizes it's the Shikon no Tama shards, glowing on the necklace Kagome's wearing. She reaches out to take them, only to be knocked back as a huge sphere forms around Kagome, orbs of light flying back and forth inside of it. Urasue realizes it's Kikyou's soul, and that it seems to be violently upset, as though Kikyou suffered a huge betrayal before her death. At this moment, Kikyou's head turns and looks at Inuyasha, who is just arriving, Kaede and Shippou with him. Kaede declares they're too late, and Kagome calls out to Inu weakly. But Inuyasha is just staring at Kikyou in shock. Kikyou's voice is heard, saying for Inu not to call her name. But Inuyasha doesn't listen, and says one word. "K-Kikyou..." Kagome's eyes snap open, and her soul rockets into the air, drawing everyone's attention. Urasue is happy, and Inu yells out for Kagome. Urasue tells Inuyasha that when he said Kikyou's name, Kagome's heart missed a beat, allowing the soul to escape. The soul then flies straight at Kikyou, lifting her into the air and pouring into her. Kikyou floats back down to the ground, and Inu says that Kagome's spirit is now in Kikyou's body. Shippou jumps onto the side of the tub, trying to wake her up, but Urasue tells him that Kagome is as good as dead, and that she has no problem with eating the soulless girl for dinner. Kaede asks how Urasue could do such a thing, and Urasue explains that now Kikyou has her body back, it makes Urasue her creator, her mother, and that she'll use Kikyou's abilities to her advantage. She instructs Kikyou to destroy the intruders, but is stopped when Kikyou places her hands on Urasue's shoulders, and sends purifying energy into the witch. While Urasue burns, Kikyou speaks to Inuyasha, asking how he could be alive, when she sealed him to a tree before dying. Inu jumps back, and says that he's free again, and ready to fight her again if he has to. Kikyou looks up, seriously pissed, and about to cry, and calls him a foul beast. She stands and says that she hates him, only to have the familiar wound reappear on her right shoulder, the one that ended up killing her. Inu asks if she has a problem, and Kikyou moves her hand from her shoulder, both now covered in blood. She yells at him, asking why he betrayed her, and Inu is surprised, asking where all the blood is coming from. Kaede asks Inu if it isn't the same one he gave her before Kikyou died, and Inu, shocked, yells out, "That *I* inflicted?! What are you saying, that *I* was the one who killed Kikyou?!" Kaede says yes, and that it was the wound Inuyasha gave Kikyou that killed her. But Inu declares that he didn't even remember wounding her. Kaede tells him to think carefully, and that if he's certain it wasn't him, then who killed Kikyou?! Kikyou calls him a liar, and tells him to stop. She asks if he remembers when he told her he wanted to become human. Kaede interrupts, saying that Inuyasha wants to be a demon. Kikyou continues, saying that Inu said he would become human, and that she believed him. She said she took the jewel shard with her to meet him, and give it to him. Then she was attacked, her shoulder wounded, only to have Inuyasha come up from behind her, and step on her hand, which was reaching for the jewel she dropped. "Fool, I have no desire whatsoever to become human. But I shall take the Shikon jewel nonetheless. Thanks. This jewel is about to absorb a great deal of pain and suffering when I use it to slaughter the villagers." "You Traitor!! TRAITOR!!!!" Kaede says she can't believe it, and Inu yells, asking if she's saying that HE's the one who betrayed HER. Kikyou says it's true, and that that's why she used the last of her strength to bind him to the tree. She walks over to him, whispering his name. He whispers hers back, and Kikyou says that they were fated to have never met again. She touches Inuyasha's face gently, then rests her hands on Inu's arms. But then, just like with Urasue, Kikyou send purifying energy into him, burning through his jacket. He goes flying back, and Kaede steps up to Kikyou, telling her to stop. Kikyou asks who she is, and Kaede explains that she's her little sister, and that it's been 50 years since Kikyou died. Kikyou asks how Kaede could take Inuyasha's side, and takes Kaede's bow and an arrow before shoving the older woman aside. Kikyou aims the arrow at Inuyasha, who's just starting to get up, and fires at him as he jumps back, leaving a smoking hole in the ground afterwards. Shippou has pulled Kagome out of the tub, and holds onto her while watching the fight. Kikyou turns to Kaede and demands another arrow. Kaede tries to step back, telling her that Inuyasha isn't her enemy. "Kaede! Show your loyalty to your flesh and blood, not to some half-breed!" Kikyou takes Kaede's arrows, and points another one at InuYasha, saying that Inu had told her that he wanted to be human, and that he wanted to be with her. Shippou asks Kaede what will happen to Kagome, and Kaede explains that unless Kikyou's soul releases it's hatred and returns to Kagome, then she is basically dead. Inuyasha tells Kikyou that he meant every word, but Kikyou calls him a liar, and tells him that she despises him, and that as long as he lives, her spirit cannot be freed. Kaede, holding onto Kagome's body, tells Inuyasha that the woman is not the true Kikyou, and that Inuyasha MUST destroy her, in order to get the soul back. Kikyou declares that she will NOT return to Kagome's body until she is able to get her revenge on Inuyasha. Kikyou fires an arrow at Inuyasha, who blocks with the Tetsusaiga. But the arrow ends up overpowering the sword, and reverts it back to it's rusty form. The arrow flies to Inuyasha's chest/shoulder, in the same spot he had been sealed with. The clothing tears, and Inuyasha yells out in pain. At this, Kagome's eyes snap open again, and this time her body glows blue. Kikyou is shocked as her soul begins to leave her body, and return to Kagome. Kaede tells Shippou that Kagome is calling the soul back to her, while Kikyou screams that it can't be, not yet, since she hasn't had her revenge. The souls fly into Kagome, and Kikyou's arrow disappears. Inuyasha sits up, asking where Kikyou is. He looks for her, and sees her walking off. He decides Kikyou still has some of Kagome's soul, but a near-dead Urasue says that it's also Kikyou's hatred of Inuyasha that's keeping her moving, and that Kikyou is now a monster feeding on hatred. Inuyasha jumps up and runs after Kikyou, while Kaede calls out to him. Kikyou is trying to escape from Kagome, but ends up slipping and almost falling off the cliff. Inu catches her, and tells her that she can't go on like that, and must return to Kagome's body. Kikyou tells him that it would be the same as dying, since she would no longer exist. She declares that she refuses to die until she carries out her revenge, and tries to purify Inuyasha again. Unfortunately, he's the only thing holding her up, and that jolt weakens him, causing him to slip farther, and lose his grip on Kikyou, who falls off the cliff and into the mist. Inuyasha, distraught, clenches his fist, and goes over what he remembered of the betrayal. He recalls how Kikyou used her powers to keep the jewel safe from demons, and how he was one of those demons stopped by Kikyou, though she never killed him like she did the others. He remembers following her, and watching her bathe at one point, and then later on talking to her like normal people almost. In his memory, Kikyou explains that she is a normal woman, but must hide it so a demon doesn't find her weakness and kill her. He tells her to stop whining, and she looks at him sadly, making him feel guilty. He says that after that moment, he began to stay by her side constantly, and that they were always together. Later, Kikyou told him that he could use the jewel to become a human, and that the jewel would be purified by his wish, and would probably cease to exist. He asks what would happen to her, and she says that afterwards, she could live a normal life. "I had no second thoughts. I could live my life as a human, with her." Then he talks about how, on the day she was to bring him the jewel, she attacked him in their meeting place, firing arrows at him and yelling for him to die. "She betrayed me! Kikyou betrayed me! As soon as I let down my guard, she tried to slay me! I managed to dodge the arrows, and went to the village to steal the jewel. And that's when she bound me to the tree." He remembers her asking why he betrayed her. "How did it come to this? How did it go so wrong?" Inuyasha, walking back to the others, still wounded, falls to the ground face-first. "It wasn't supposed to be like this." He rolls over onto his back. "KIKYOU!" |
