The Family History of James Watts
of Cumberland and Northumberland Counties, Pennsylvania

171. Thomas M.5 Watts (William M.4, Squire3, Francis2, James1) He was born in East Canton, PA., 24 August 1857. He died in Waverly, New York, 2 July 1932, and was buried at Canton, PA on 5 July 1932. The cause of his death was debilation of heart (1 month, 20 days), arterio sclerosis (5 years) and chronic brights disease (3 years).

During the 1880 U.S. Census, he was reported to be working as a farm laborer. In 1900 his occupation was listed as foreman in a toy factory, where his son Earl and daughter Ruth worked with him. He worked as a carpenter at the railroad car shop in Sayre during the 1910 and 1920 census. When Thomas Watts retired he was foreman of the carpentry shop for the Lehigh Valley Railroad at Sayre, Bradford Co., PA., a few miles south of his home in Waverly, Tioga Co., New York. His death certificate lists his occupation as being a cabinet maker for the Lehigh Valley Railroad and that he last worked at his occupation in 1931.

On 26 March 1897, T. M. Watts, Eva Darling Watts, Ruth Watts and Earl L. Watts were admitted as members of the First Presbyterian Church of Canton, PA.

About 1880, Thomas Watts married Eva Darling. The census records show that she was born about August 1861 in PA. She died after 1920. She was the daughter of Wilmer Starkey Darling (born in New York, died 26 April 1894, East Canton) and Eliza Roberts (born in PA., died 17 January 1877, Canton Twp.). Thomas Watts was later married to Emma M. Naylor. In 1942 she was listed as the widow of Thomas Watts in the Waverly directory.

Thomas Watts and his family were recorded as living in Canton, PA, during the 1900 census, in Sayre, PA, during the 1910 census and at 14 Lincloln St., Waverly, NY, during the 1920 census.[58]

250.ivLeland Watts born May 1889. He married Winnifred [Pratt ?] about 1910. She was born about 1890 in PA. During the 1910 census they were living with the family of Isaac (born about 1856 in PA.) and Melinda Pratt (born about 1863 in PA. It is believed that they were the parents of his wife Winnifred. In 1910, Leland was working as a machinist at the railroad shop in Sayre. In the early 1960's, Mrs. (Florence) Leland Watts was living in Clearwater, FL.[59]

   

175. William W.5 Watts (William M.4, Squire3, Francis2, James1) He was born about 1875/1876 in PA. In 1910, his occupation was reported as being a milkman. They rented their home in 1910. He was married to Ester B. Dutcher on 3 July 1906 by Rev. Harry B. Allen at Easton Canton, PA. She was born about 1883 in Michigan. Her parents were George W. Dutcher and Sybil B. [-?-], both born in PA. In the early 1960's, Esther Watts moved from 36 S. 10 St., Allentown, PA, to 370 Monticello Ave, Harrisonburg, VA.[60]

176. Myra Irene5 Watts (William M.4, Squire3, Francis2, James1) She was born about 1881 in PA. She was married by Rev. W.P. Miller at East Canton on 15 December 1906 to Raymond Amos Van Fleet, a farmer. He was born about 1879 in PA. His parents were J. P. Van Fleet and Delphine [-?-]. The 1910 census reports he was a laborer doing farm work, who owned his own home, free of mortgage.[61]

182. Clarence H.5 Watts (Andrew E.4, Squire3, Francis2, James1) He was born on 10 January 1870 at Canton, Bradford Co., PA., and died on 8 September 1950. He was born about February 1870 in PA. At the time of his marriages in 1897 and 1913, his occupation was recorded being a farmer in East Canton. In 1910, he was identified as being a dairy farmer owing his own farm free of mortgage.

He was married first on 28 October 1897 by Rev. Geo. E. Hutching to Leona (Levina) Brown. She was born in Sullivan Co., PA., on 6 January 1878 and died 27 September 1906. Her parents were Lerenzo Brown and Jennie [-?-]. He was married the second time on 30 April 1913 by Rev. Clyde G. Gustin at East Canton to Minnie (Hoagland) Tillotson. She was born about 1874 to Marshal Hoagland and Ruth A. [-?-]) At the time of her marriage she was the widow of [-?-] Tillotson, who died 19 January 1905. [62]

255.iiIrene Delight Watts born 16 December 1898 at East Canton, PA., married Paul Dreste (died 15 June 1934) on 23 July 1920.
256.iiiNellie Pauline Watts born 23 August 1900 at Canton, PA., married Edwin Baldwin 7 June 1925.

 

191. John Franklin5 Watts (Thomas Jefferson4, John3, James2, James1) He was born 11 August 1855 at Salladasburg, PA. He died at Jersey Shore, PA., on 18 September 1927, and was buried at the Salladasburg Cemetery. He was married to Georgeanna Vandenburg on 21 September 1880 by the Rev. A. E. Tay at the parsonage in Salladasburg, PA. She was born on 30 June 1862 at Tiffin, Ohio, and died on 26 June 1928 at Williamsport, PA., and is buried at the Salladasburg Cemetery. [63]

194. John A.5 Mallory (Mariah Jane4, John3, James2, James1) He was born 19 December 1849 and died on 10 February 1917. He was married to Margaret Ellen Edler on 13 September 1877 at Perryville by the Rev. H. Eggers. She had been a resident of Lycoing Township at the time of her marriage. She was born on 20 November 1853 and died on 17 November 1915. [64]

258.iBlanche Estella6 Mallory born 19 July 1878, married [-?-] Pepperman, had a daughter Doris who married [-?-] Schalles.
259.iiNellie Edith Mallory born 1 January 1884.
260.iiiSaul Birch Mallory born 20 February 1889, died 13 March 1965.

 

207. Eli Montgomery5 Watts (Jonathan William4, John3, James2, James1) He was born 9 October 1873 at Okome, PA. He died on 1 May 1957 at Milton, PA., and is buried at the Grandview Cemetery. He was married to Olive Malisa Gingerich on 15 September 1898. She was born at Potters Mills, Centre Co., PA. on 19 December 1876. She was baptized 19 April 1914 at the Epworth Methodist Church at Jersey Shore. She died on 2 December 1949 at New Columbia, PA., and is buried at the Grandview Cemetery. 263.iiiMabel Helen Watts born 8 May 1905 in Slate Run, PA, baptized 14 June 1914, married 11 April 1925 to Arthur Franklin Straub (born 29 August 1904, died 9 September 1979, buried at Williamsport, PA.), no children from this marriage.
264.ivOlive Malisa Watts born 16 July 1906 in Waterville, baptized 14 June 1914, married 14 July 1924 at Hagerstown, MD., to Samuel Raymond Neuhard (born 13 July 1905 at Milton, PA., died 8 April 1973 at Phoenix, AZ., buried at Phoenix, AZ.), 3 children.

209. Hessa Deliah5 Watts (Jonathan William4, John3, James2, James1) She was born 17 March 1877, died on 30 July 1904, and is buried at Cammal Cemetery. She married Anthony Banks Ross. 211. John Austin5 Watts (Jonathan William4, John3, James2, James1) He was born 23 April 1881 at Waterville, PA. He died 18 November 1964 at the Williams Nursing Home. He worked as an engineer for J. K. Rishel Furniture Company. He married Martha E. Vaulters. She was born on 3 May 1887 and died on 22 February 1962. They are both buried in the Cammal Cemetery. [68]

Her first husband was Guy Landen, her second husband was [-?-] Bedger and her third husband was William Clark.
